"More than a suitcase will stay. The Western Powers
and Berlin 1944-1994" was the title of the Allied Museum's first exhibition,
which was inaugurated by the then chancellor Helmut Kohl. Approximately
68'000 visitors came from September 4th to December 4th. The exhibition
pieces in the open area included the American helicopter ´Spirit of
Steinstücken´, armoured vehicles of the Western powers and the Checkpoint
Charlie guard house. Western power memorabilia was on display in the
Outpost Theatre. The programme accompanying the exhibition consisted
of a series of events involving eye witnesses, an international conference
on the cultural politics of the four occupying powers and films on
the history of the Western powers in Berlin.
