"Smiling Desired" -
Cartoons of the Airlift
From May 11th to August 3rd, the exhibition "Smiling Desired"-
Cartoons of the Airlift was on display. The exhibition mainly showed
cartoons by the famous Airlift artist John "Jake" Schuffert. 50
years after the end of the Blockade the cartoons offered an unfamiliar
glimpse into the work during the Airlift and became documentation
of the fact that participants of the Airlift never lost their sense
of humour despite the dangerous and hard work.

"Let Berlin be next!" George Bush and German Unity
was the title of a special exhibition that ran from November 9th,
1999 to February 13th, 2000. The exhibition showed the substantial
role that the American president had played during the negotiations
for German unity. A special emphasis was placed on the close contacts
to the West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. For the first time ever,
the museum presented the transcripts that the White House had drawn
up of the telephone calls the two politicians engaged in between October
1989 and October 1990. |
